La Ciudad Mexican Cafe and Grill (La Ciudad)
was established in 2009 on the north side of Chicago in Uptown. Owned by Mexican native and self taught chef, Hugo De La Rosa, La Ciudad offers a variety of dine-in, carry-out, delivery, and catering options. La Ciudad, which means “the city” in spanish, is a reference to Mexico City, birthplace of Chef De La Rosa. Dishes from the riches of Oaxaca and Mexico City are showcased throughout the menu. These family favorites and childhood memory dishes are some of the most popular dishes at La Ciudad.
La Ciudad and the Angel of Independence
La Ciudad’s logo has Mexico City’s “Angel of Independence” as its focal point. References to Mexico City or “el D.F.”, is seen throughout the 40 seat restaurant. The main dining area is reminiscent of Mexico’s flag; with its walls painted red, green benches, and white tables and chairs. The red walls showcase black and white images of Mexico City and its most famous buildings and passions. The outside patio area creates an atmosphere of privacy and an escape from the day to day activities.
